Space Kitty

Like many other pet owners, I take lots of photos of my cat, Georgie. One late night at home, after reading a 'how-to' on making interesting backdrops with simple materials, I decided to give it a try. I had some of my travel gear with me at home since I had a location shoot earlier in the day, but most of my equipment was back at the studio so I made due with only the basics. Using my DSLR, two speed lights, tin foil, a white tee-shirt (as a diffuser), and a few cat treats, we captured some pretty sweet 'space kitty' portraits. Only thing missing is the space suit!

You can try various objects as test subjects, and even try different colors on the backdrop using gels on the background flash. I didn't have my gels with me, so I was limited to the silver color of the foil. Next time I'll definitely try it with color. If you have the means to do it, give it a try yourself!
